Three Ways to Safely and Easily Take out Soft Locs

Soft Locs are great protective styles that look beautiful and give the goddess vibes.

However, taking soft locs down can be tedious, and one can easily cut their natural hair. Hence, the article will offer ways to safely and easily take out soft locs.

Things you will need and what to consider before taking out soft loc

  1. You will need scissors, a hairbrush, a comb and spray moisturizer.
  2. Moisturize the hair before taking down soft locs to avoid breakage and damaging natural hair.
  3. You have to consider how the soft locs were installed or wrapped before choosing the following take down methods.

Method One

If your soft locs were installed using the Knotless methods of installing Soft locs, as I explained in my previous post, this is how you will take out the soft locs.

  1. With Knotless Soft Locs installed using spring twists and locs, you need to identify how the spring twists were wrapped.
  2. If the spring twist were installed to the right, you would take them out by untwisting them to the left.
  3. Hold at the base while untwisting.
  4. Untwist until you see the loop where the spring twist was crocheted while installing the locs.
  5. Once you find the loop, cut it to make it easy to unravel the spring twist hair on both ends. The advantage of this method is that you do not need to unravel the twist all the way to the end since you can easily see the natural hair while untwisting.
  6. After spotting the natural hair, cut the rest of the locs or unravel without cutting the locs.
  7. With the inner part of the loc, you will easily unbraided and slide out the loc.

Method 2

This method is applicable if the soft locs were installed without using spring twist and crochet on your natural hair from the base.

  1. Start by twisting the loc the opposite way.
  2. Twist until you see your braided hair.
  3. Pull out easily and gently.
  4. You will be left with two sections: the wrap-loc hair and your natural braided hair.
  5. Unravel the braided hair and pull out the wrapping loc gently.

This method of taking out soft locs is easy and significant because you will not cut your locs, and they can be reused.

Method Three

Method Three is applicable if soft locs were installed through crocheting both spring twists and locs at the base of your natural hair.

  1. Take the loc and unwrap it around the ends of your natural hair.
  2. You will unwrap until you see the spring twist.
  3. Cut the spring twist and unwrap to separate your natural hair from the loc.
  4. Continue unwrapping until you get to the roots and cut the loc.
  5. However, normally after cutting the loc, there are still some that are left.  Hence, you will have to unbraid the natural hair to get to the loc that was not cut off and remove it.
