All you need to know about Wet Plopping, Net-plopping, and Diffusing Curly Hair
What is Wet Plopping?
Wet plopping is a hairstyling technique used to bring out the definition of curls after you wash your hair.
It is normally done when the hair is wet.
Itcan also be done at two different times;
- Wet plopping directly after the shower to keep the hair wet before styling
- Wet Plopping after applying your styling products and scrunching out excess products and water.
Benefits of Wet Plopping
- Wet Plopping helps to reduce frizz and give curls a smooth appearance
- Wet Plopping increases curls definition
- Wet Plopping increases the hair volume
The process of Wet Plopping with A Micro-fiber Towel or A T-shirt
- Do your normal wash routine.
- While the hair is wet, detangle it to make sure you have no notes on the hair.
- Apply styling products, including a leave-in conditioner and curl-defining styling gel.
- Let the hair over the T-shirt or a microfiber towel very gently and tie it.
- Add a bonnet if you have a T-shirt for extra hold. The bonnet will help keep everything in place, and the t-shirt won’t move.
- You can let it dry overnight. Wet Plopping overnight will give curls time to suck up the water and products before drying.

What is Net-plopping?
Net-plopping Curly Hair is a simple and easy technique of plopping curly hair using a fishnet cap or stocking when the hair is 90% wet.
A major benefit of net-plopping is to have your hair in a plopping position but still have a tonne of air for the hair to dry.
Process of net-plopping curly hair
- Start with freshly washed hair
- Apply a leave-in conditioner immediately after leaving the shower.
- Grab a shower cap and plop the hair while in the cap for 15 minutes. This will help to maintain moisture in the hair.
- Let the hair out and apply styling products.
- Grab a fishnet cap and slowly put your hair inside the cap and tie it.
- With net-plopping, you can air dry the hair until 80%, then diffuse it.

Diffusing Curly Hair
Diffusing is a technique used to dry curly hair using a diffuser. You can either diffuse curly hair after wet plopping, net-plopping, or when the hair is 50% dry.
This will reduce the diffusing time. Also, you will only use the cooling settings while diffusing and avoid heat damage to the hair.
One thing to remember before diffusing hair is to not start from the ends because;
- You will be disturbing the curls patterns on the ends.
- You are not allowing your curls to set
- You are encouraging a lot of shrinkages
- You will be drying the ends way faster than the roots. Hence ending up with frizzy and wet roots.
When diffusing, I recommend the hover diffusing method, where you keep some space between your hair and the diffuser.
Process of Diffusing Curly Hair
- Start by hoover diffusing around the hair for 2 minutes, then flip the hair to one side and start diffusing from the top to the ends.
- While diffusing to a slight scrunch, it will help with volume. Don’t be aggressive with the hair to avoid frizz.
- Repeat the same procedure on the other side and at the back of your hair.
- Make sure the hair is evenly dried.
