How to Get Frizz Free Curls as a Beginner

We love our curls! They are beautiful and attaining frizz-free curls help you stay looking your best all day. Besides, taking care of your curls as a beginner can be easy if you have the right styling and maintenance techniques. Styling curls is one of the most important steps toward creating a great hairstyle for your natural hair. Follow my simple styling techniques and step-by-step guides to get started with your curl care regimen.

Step-by-step guides to Attain Defined Curls as a Beginner.

  1. Wash your hair.

Washing your hair is very essential in acquiring your desired perfect curls. Cleansing your hair will help to remove any build-up in the hair and open your pores to absorb hair products. There are many shampoos for curly hairs that will give you a good wash but my best is the Amika Hydro Rush Intense Moisture Shampoo. I love this shampoo because nowadays it is hard to find a sulfate, silicon, and paraben-free product for curly hair that actually works and gives desired results. Amika Hydro Rush Intense Moisture Shampoo is the best for dry hair, hair that has difficulty absorbing moisture and is prone to build-up.

  1. Apply a leave-in conditioner

Use a Hydro Rush Intense Moisture Leave-in Conditioner since it is lightweight, non-greasy, and has lasting hydration. Also, I would recommend that if you diffuse your hair every other wash day please use a leave-in conditioner that has a thermal protector. Start with the mid-strands first instead of applying the entire product to your hair. Take your time, reach for your ends and work through the roots.

  1. Styling

When styling, make sure that your hair is not too wet, but wet enough to absorb your curling products. You can taste with your hands and squish your hair to see if it is wet enough for styling. The reason I recommend not going for soaking wet hair is that your hair will be too heavy and will definitely take a lot of time to dry. Therefore, only apply products when your hair is medium wet.

a. Use a Volumizing Mousse

In case your hair is thin and you need volume in your hair, I would suggest you start by using a volumizing mousse. Mousse is the best and most effective product to offer volume to your hair. The best volumizing mousse currently in the market that I would suggest is the Camille Rose Spiked Honey Mousse.

When applying the mousse, be generous, rake it into your hair and make sure you apply it at the roots. The volumizing mousse will help in making the entire hair look thick and with enough volume when adapted to the roots.

b. Applying the Gel

Remember to go for products that have gel to give your hair a lot of hold and definition. Also, using lightweight pr acts such as mousse or gel instead of heavy formulas is important. You want to avoid weighing down your hair with large amounts of product because this can damage it over time.

When applying your gel start from mid shafts, and the ends, and work all through the roots. Then comb through the hair with the Denman Classic Styling Brush which helps in distributing the products. When combing the hair work in vertical sections. Take a few sections of your hair while clipping the rest of the hair and comb off of your scalp and up away. This technique will help in creating individuals’ curls definition. Do not brush your hair downwards because you will pull the curls from the roots of your hair.

  c. Plopping the Hair

Plopping is an amazing technique used to dry and absorb products in your curly hair using a microfiber towel. You can also diffuse your hair if you do not have time to plop. However, plopping is the most effective way to get those defined curls. It is a great way to add volume and thickness to your hair. This simple process is easy to master in the comfort of your own home, and allows you to create those perfectly plopped curls that last all day long. The technique will give you soft defined curls and help to dry the hair quicker.

I would recommend using a Microfiber Hair Towel Wrap which is much easier to wrap your hair and secure it. It is also super soft and will absorb any extra water or products in the hair. Just flip your hair up and wrap it with the hair towel in a secured manner. When your hair is wrapped there will be no weight lift that can damage your curls and you will end up with nicely defined bouncy curled hair when it dries up.

d. Oiling the Hair

Once your hair is 90% dry and you have achieved those bouncy curls, do not forget to oil your hair. Use a lightweight oil to scrunch out any scrunch hair. Make sure to go easy at the ends and the roots of your hair to avoid destroying any of the curls. Finish with a little bit of oil spray when it is 100% dry to give it some shine.
